Local Spotlight: How Pauline Barratt Aquatics is improving the mental and physical health of Orillia’s residents.

Housed in a charming heritage building in the downtown Orillia, this local aquatic centre has become a resource for so much more than swimming lessons by introducing the Brain Fitness program.

So what exactly is Brain Fitness? Created by award winning health and fitness guru Paul Hyman, the practice is aimed toward “neurogenesis”, which is the development and rebuilding of neural pathways. At the aquatic centre, brain and aqua fitness are combined to create a unique program that improves both mental and physical health. Through a combination of specially designed movements, the instructor aims to enhance balance, vision and memory in order to improve both mental and physical health. Although it’s been deemed “The Solution to the Aging Brain”, Brain Fitness beneficial to those of all ages.

“I got meet the famous Pauline due to my injuries to my body inside and out. Well what can one say about this truly amazing, dedicated, knowledgeable lady. Caring, expertise in every muscle in your body, concerns that you’re breathing right, relax, and repair. My overall health is improving everyday I partake”, claims one of the program’s participants.

Aside from Brain Fitness, the centre offers swimming lessons, first aid training, summer camp and more. Specialized, private instruction is also available. If you have a pool or lake access, private outdoor lessons are offered along with group classes at various locations.
